Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park

Ruby Beach is one of the best-known beaches on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. Its sea stacks, broad driftwood-covered shoreline, tide pools, and west-facing sunsets make it a popular stop in Olympic National Park.

Trail and beach access

The walk from the Ruby Beach Trailhead is about 0.5 mile round trip with roughly 50 feet of elevation change. The forest path descends to the coast and is manageable for many visitors, but the final approach and beach itself may include uneven ground, loose logs, rocks, and wet sand.

Tide pools and safety

Low tide may reveal tide pools with anemones, sea stars, and other marine life. Check the local tide forecast before visiting, keep a safe distance from waves, and never climb on unstable driftwood. Coastal weather can change quickly, so bring layers even on warm days.

Best time to visit

Late spring through early fall usually offers the easiest access, while winter brings dramatic surf and more severe weather. Sunset is especially scenic, but carry a light for the forest walk back to the parking area.
