Vesper Peak via Headlee Pass
Vesper Peak is a demanding alpine outing in the Mountain Loop Highway area, starting at Sunrise Mine Trailhead. The route follows the Sunrise Mine Trail through a creek valley, climbs steeply to rocky Headlee Pass, and crosses rough ground toward Vesper Creek. Vesper Lake lies nearby beneath the high walls of Vesper and Sperry peaks.
Beyond the maintained trail, the summit route becomes less obvious. It rises through heather and rock to Vesper's broad granite slabs, where careful route-finding and some scrambling are needed. The summit opens wide views across Vesper Lake and the surrounding North Cascades.
Before you go
This is a hard route for experienced hikers, with steep loose sections, unbridged creek crossings, and places where a wrong turn can lead to exposed rock. Snow can linger high on the mountain after the lower trail has cleared. Check recent trail reports, the forecast, and road access before setting out, and allow plenty of time for the descent.

Достаточно сложный хайк, но один из самых красивых, на которых я бывал. Сначала идёт непростой подъём через лес и по склону, а потом открываются поразительные виды на горы.
Я поднимался ближе к вечеру, и лучи заходящего солнца освещали горные склоны. В тот день было невероятно тепло. Остановился с палаткой на берегу озера, а ночью любовался замечательным звёздным небом.
Некоторые начинали подъём на Vesper Peak уже в три часа ночи. В следующий раз тоже хочу попробовать выйти так рано. Сам я поднялся на вершину примерно в обед, и это был очень классный опыт.
Обязательно берите достаточный запас воды и еды: подъём крутой и тяжёлый. Последний участок к вершине каменистый и требует осторожности, особенно в сырую погоду. Мне в сухую погоду подниматься было легче, но расслабляться на этом участке не стоит.
Сложный, но очень красивый хайк. Однозначно рекомендую!
