Granite Mountain Trail
Granite Mountain is a challenging yet rewarding hike located in the Snoqualmie Pass area along the I-90 corridor. This trail is known for its steep ascent and breathtaking panoramic views from the summit. Hikers are treated to a variety of landscapes, including dense forests, open meadows, and rocky outcrops. The trail is well-maintained but can be quite strenuous, especially in the final stretch to the summit.
The trail begins at the Pratt Lake/Granite Mountain Trailhead and quickly gains elevation as it winds through lush evergreen forests. As you climb higher, the trees thin out, revealing expansive views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Wildflowers are abundant in the summer months, adding vibrant colors to the already stunning scenery.
At the summit, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of the Cascade Range, including Mount Rainier on clear days. The summit also features a historic fire lookout, which adds a touch of history to the adventure. Due to its elevation and exposure, the summit can be windy and cold, so hikers should come prepared with appropriate gear. This trail is best enjoyed from late spring to early fall, as snow can linger well into the summer months, making the hike more challenging and potentially dangerous without proper equipment.
Best season: June–October
